How does REACH affect suppliers?
Duties as a EU manufacturer
- Pre-register substances at the European Chemicals Agency between June 1 and
December 1, 2008 if the volume produced or imported is 1 tonne or more per year and per legal entity - Commence registration of substances from June 1, 2008
- Identify all uses of the chemical substance
- Create Exposure Scenarios and recommendations of risk management measures
- Communicate the Exposure Scenarios down the supply chain via Safety Data Sheets
Options of a Non-EU manufacturer
- Provide each importer of your substances located in the EU with the data and information necessary for (pre-)registration
- Alternatively appoint an ‘Only Representative’ established in the EU to fulfil the obligations of an importer
